Smart Handles is a fictional project with a mobile application and hardware components, and its main goal is to prevent children from opening doors. The hardware identifies fingerprints and hand sizes, and the application enables and disables who, when, and which doors can be opened.
Programs Used - Adobe Illustrator, After effects & Figma
I began by creating an app proposal that included a description of the app, research in the industry, pain points, tasks, interactions, and inspirations. then the information architecture, and finally, low-fidelity sketches to receive feedback.
The first-time use page is used to log in or sign up using an existing social media account or email.
The hardware installation process initiates. The user will take a few steps to receive a connected or failure message.
A successful message is displayed if the hardware can connect.
Failure and try again message displayed when the hardware is unable to connect.
Users will follow the steps to set up as many fingerprints as they wish, and can also add a name/nickname to identify them. In the settings, they can remove or add more and make edits.
Toggle switch to:
Disable lock function (allow all)
Allow only adults (determined by hand size)
Allow only saved fingerprints
Control each room seperatly
Three main rooms are already in the app as default but more rooms can be added.
If the room is set separately, the "set each room separately" function will enable automatically in the home page, prioritizing the rooms setup.
In this section customers can control the locks within the room:
Disable lock function (allow all)
Allow only adults (determined by hand size)
Allow only saved fingerprints
The problem: Busy parents that need to access doors (cabinets particularly) with kid locks and get frustrated, annoyed when they realize there's a lock and have to work around it.
Solution: An app where parents can manage the locks, locks that identify fingerprints so when an adult will open the door, they wont have any trouble yet, the doors can be secured for the young members of the family.
Challenge: Controlling app options quickly and effortlessly. I was able to overcome this problem by including the icons of each button/room and a toggle switch.
